What is the PC Upgrade Advisor?

The GCC Gaming PC upgrade advisor answers the classic dilemma — should I upgrade my CPU or GPU first? Pick your current processor and graphics card from over 200 parts, set the resolution you play at and optionally a target game, and it builds a two-step upgrade path: which component to replace first, and the exact in-stock parts ranked by how much real performance each buys per dirham. When you pick a game, it also shows your estimated FPS before and after each upgrade.

How It Works

Select your CPU, GPU and RAM, then choose your target resolution — and a specific game if you have one in mind. The advisor first runs our published bottleneck formula to find your limiting component. Step 1 ranks every in-stock upgrade for that component by the whole-system performance gain it delivers per dirham, dropping parts your other component would severely bottleneck. Step 2 then ranks upgrades for the other component, assuming you've installed the Step 1 top pick — giving you a sensible order to spend in, not just a parts list.

Methodology & Data Sources

Every CPU and GPU carries a normalized 0-100 gaming score per resolution, curated from publicly available benchmark reviews. System performance is the weighted sum of both scores using the CPU-influence weights our bottleneck calculator publishes: 60% at 1080p, 40% at 1440p and 25% at 4K. For each in-stock candidate we compute the system-score gain over your current pairing and rank by gain per dirham of live stock price. Candidates that would leave the new pairing severely bottlenecked (above 25%) by your other component are dropped; mild overshoots are kept and flagged. Step 2 re-runs the same ranking for your other component assuming Step 1's top pick is installed. Game FPS figures reuse our FPS calculator, which scales real frame rates measured on our own pre-builts. Estimates by design — so we publish the exact formula instead of hiding it.

Should I upgrade my CPU or GPU first?

Upgrade whichever component limits your performance at the resolution you play — that's usually the GPU at 1440p and 4K, and more often the CPU in high-refresh 1080p esports. The advisor above computes this for your exact pairing using our bottleneck formula, then ranks the in-stock upgrades that deliver the most performance per dirham.

How do I know a GPU upgrade won't be bottlenecked by my CPU?

Check the pairing, not the parts in isolation. A new GPU only delivers its potential if your CPU can feed it frames fast enough at your resolution. The advisor filters out cards your current CPU would severely bottleneck, and flags picks that run slightly ahead of the rest of your build so you know a CPU upgrade should follow.

Is it worth upgrading the CPU and GPU at the same time?

Usually not necessary — upgrading the limiting component first captures most of the gain, and you can spread the cost. The exception is a very old platform where a new CPU also means a new motherboard and RAM; in that case a combined upgrade or a new pre-built can be better value. The two-step path above shows exactly what the second upgrade would add.

How much performance gain makes an upgrade worth it?

A good rule of thumb is 30% or more — below that, the difference is hard to feel outside benchmarks. The gain percentages shown here are whole-system gains at your resolution, not isolated component numbers, so a +40% pick genuinely means a much faster gaming experience.

Does RAM matter when planning upgrades?

Yes — but as a threshold, not a scale. Less than 16 GB causes stutters in modern games no matter how strong your CPU and GPU are, which is why the advisor tells you to fix RAM first when you're below that baseline. Beyond what games need, extra RAM won't raise average FPS.

How are the upgrade recommendations ranked?

By whole-system performance gained per dirham — not by price, brand or margin. Each in-stock part is matched to our reference dataset of normalized gaming scores, its system-level gain over your current pairing is computed at your resolution, divided by its live price, and sorted best-first.
